Gavin Hipkins

“The Deep is a solo presentation of new work by Tāmaki Makaurau-based artist Gavin Hipkins. Found images are co-opted into installation, digital video and printed matter. These artworks realise suggestive dreamscapes, forming an industrial sublime in order to evoke yearning and disquietude.”  http://michaellett.com/exhibition/gavin-hipkins/

Time Piece’ series

“The Time Piece series is a response to materials and process. As I worked on these drawings I thought about the immense age of the swamp kauri, the delicate nature of our tenure here on this planet and our capacity to work together across hemisphere and cultures.”

These prints have been on show Giants Orchestra exhibition stand at International Design Fair Munich 2022.

Tia Ranginui

Tia Ranginui: Tua o Tāwauwau

28 May – 21 August, 2022

“An exhibition of photographic work by Whanganui artist Tia Ranginui (Ngāti Hine Oneone). In the series Tua o Tāwauwau/Away with the Fairies (2020–1) she captures patupaiarehe; who in Maori folklore were the fairy people of Aotearoa New Zealand. With their delicate features, red hair and fair complexions they lived in forests and mountains and built their homes from the swirling mists. Ranginui’s theatrical photographs show these mercurial fairy people out and about, living their lives in the Whanganui suburbs of Gonville and Castlecliff. Myth and legend echo through each image that were first seen in Ranginui’s debut public gallery show Gonville Gothic at City Gallery Wellington in 2021. The Sarjeant is delighted to be showing these works in Ranginui’s home town, alongside new work that expands the series.” – Sarjeant Gallery

Opticmix Is Open For Business

Covid Health Protections Remain in Place:

  • We will continue to offer contactless pick up and drop offs if clients wish.
  • We will continue to send test prints to clients at our cost if you don’t wish to come to the studio to pick them up.
  • The Studio is open to masked clients. It’s a small space and we’re a small team so the virus getting in would close us down for several weeks or more. We want to avoid that, and covid generally, so we will continue to use a Health & Safety lens when operating the studio to keep ourselves, workforce and clients safe. Masks will be available to clients that inadvertently come without them.
  • The Hepa Air Purifier we purchased for the studio will remains in use.
