In major museums and art galleries throughout the world the best fine art prints are now digitally produced. The printers/inks that we use at Opticmix produce prints, on a range of archival papers and canvases, that are rated as being light fast for up to 200 years.
Fine Art digital print making
We use Epson large format printers.

SureColor Production 20070 a 64″ (1626mm), with Epson UltraChrome® Pro all-pigment aqueous ink, can print up to 1600mm wide by any length dependent upon chosen stock dimensions.

Surecolor P5070, with Epson’s latest UltraChrome® HDX all-pigment aqueous ink, suited to cut sheet and double-sided printing to A2 size.

We print on acid-free papers and canvas. The world’s foremost testing laboratory for inkjet archival permanence, the Wilhelm Institute in the USA, claims a display life for these Epsom pigmented inks on acid-free paper of up to 200 years under standard display conditions.
Mounting and lamination

Opticmix has installed equipment to mount and laminate our print output if required by clients. As this is to support printing for exhibition and presentation purposes, we are not offering hot encapsulation lamination and focus on higher quality cold laminates. We use pH neutral adhesives and, combined with substrates like Di-bond and Kapa board, this offers a mounting solution which is as archival as is possible.
Scanning

We operate an Imacon 848 for negative and transparency film 35mm – 4x5in. formats. For reflective (hard copy) scanning we operate an Epson 4990.
For reproduction of framed artwork and work larger than A3 we recommend photographic capture and have working relationships with a number of photographers who offer analogue and high resolution digital services.
Profiling

Opticmix uses equipment and software to profile our monitors and printers, at present we are using xrite iPublish Pro 2. This is a perpetual activity as the technology improves and the process requires constant checking to ensure consistency.
Coating

Opticmix uses an HPLV spray system for coating canvas with a varnish specifically designed for digital prints. This gives both surface and increased UV protection.
